How to Record Lap Splits on the Track & Pool Deck
Define Target Splits Ahead of Time
Fill in the "Target / Pace" column before the race or training interval starts so your athlete knows their target split times (e.g. 62.0s per 400m).
Record Split vs Cumulative Time
Use the Split Time column for each individual lap (e.g. 64.2s) and the Cumulative column for total race duration (e.g. 2:08.4).
Annotate Splits in Real Time
Use the Notes column to record drafting, wind changes, footwear adjustments, or lap fatigue to review during post-race coaching.

What is the difference between split time and cumulative time?
Split time is the duration of a single segment or lap (e.g. 400 meters). Cumulative time is the total stopwatch duration since the starting gun.
Can this sheet be used for swimming split times?
Yes. Swimming coaches frequently use this exact format for 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle split tracking per 50m or 100m interval.
How many laps fit on one printed sheet?
You can choose between 12, 16, 20, or 25 rows depending on the distance of your event. All options are designed to fit onto a single printed page.
Is there space to write session weather and track conditions?
Yes. The bottom notes box features ruled lines specifically designated for weather conditions, temperature, wind, and athlete feedback.
